To share a calendar, you need to first alter the calendar permissions. To do this, click on the share button once you have the calendar displayed. Click the "only the following users" option and enter the SmartCal IDs of your friends in the text field for viewing privilege. You may want to give them posting and updating rights. Repeat the process for each section. The people you give access to may subscribe to your calendar. Note that SmartCal does not give out IDs, so you will need to contact your friends independently to get their IDS.
There are a number of ways to make a subscription. When browsing categories for instance, the matching calendars display a subscribe button. If you click this, you are taken to a page that lists the calendar that you will subscribe to, and gives you a pulldown menu of choices of which calendar will get the subscription. It's that easy.
To publish a calendar, first make a separate calendar for this purpose, then browse through the calendar categories until you find a suitable place in the category hierarchy. Publishing your calendar in the right spot will help others find it. Once you are at the right level, click on the publish here button and you will be taken to a page that shows you the category you have chosen and presents you with a pull down menu of your calendars. Pick the calendar you want to publish, and watch your subscriptions grow! You can find events through the event search, or by browsing through the event categories. The events themselves come from people exactly like you. Someone published and or made their calendar public so that it would appear in searches and in the categories. You too can create calendars and publish them for all to see. Perhaps you are a member of a club. Or perhaps you are looking to start a club. What better way to increase your membership than to make your events public and start inviting friends! Some organizations may have a person dedicated to keeping events on a calendar up to date. A business may want to list their recruiting forums or tradeshow appearances. Perhaps your favorite sports team will publish a list of all their matches, home and away games. It's all about getting people involved in the things you're interested in.
