Glossary

SmartCal encapsulates many features. Here is a guide to help you through it all.

HelpdotCalendarA calendar is an organizer, or logical grouping, of scheduled events. An example would be the calendar for a symphony which would list all the performances for that symphony.
HelpdotDirectoryThe calendar directory is a publicly accessible organized hierarchy where people can publish calendars. For instance, the symphony calendar could be published under the Arts/Music/Classical directory.
HelpdotEventAn event is any appointment, meeting, or task that has a date or time associated with it. This could be a sports match, a movie outing, or a potluck.
HelpdotHome CalendarYou will always have one calendar that is your personal calendar, your home at SmartCal. You can get there quickly by using the button: Home Calendar
HelpdotPublishingPublishing a calendar places it in a particular directory for everyone to see. This is, however, not the same thing as granting everyone access rights.
HelpdotRightsEach calendar has a set of rights, or permissions, which you control, which can allow other people to access, post, and update events on your calendar. Assigning the correct rights is the key to sharing.
HelpdotSharingSharing a calendar gives a select group of people access to the events on it. You can also assign other rights to allow others to post and update events on the calendar.
HelpdotSubscriptionsSubscription is a way to automatically receive event information from other people's calendars. If you want to know about all of a group's concerts, you subscribe to their calendar.
HelpdotViewsA calendar has a number of different ways of looking at the data it contains. Each way is called a view, and each offers advantages depending on what you need to do. Some examples are the daily view, the weekly view, the list view, and so forth.
HelpdotBrandingYou can associate a logo, and thus a brand, with a calendar. You can even link the logo to an official site.
